Prix fixe and wine dinners are the rage in dining right now and one of Carytown’s newest restaurants focuses on both.
Amour Wine Bistro opened in the former Cajun Bangkok in May but owner Paul Hetiz has intentionally kept the place kind of quiet for the first few months, choosing to do a drawn-out soft opening to work out the kinks.
The concept for the Wine Bistro is entirely new to Richmond. Every month Amour Wine Bistro picks a region in France and the menu focuses on the flavor and wine from that region. Every week, they pick a different ingredient to highlight on the menu as well.
Unless you’re popping in for lunch or ordering from the bar menu at the bar, every meal is served as three-course prix fixe and every course comes with a different wine.
So, for example, this month the region is Provence and this week is ingredient is blackberries and raspberries. So, the menu this week includes a first course choice of Smoked Duck Breast with a fresh Berry Salad (paired with Côtes de Provence Rosé) or Seared Scallops with Black/Raspberry Salsa and the same wine pairing.
The ingredients and wine are carried throughout the menu and diners can select a price point based on the type of wine they want. Discovery ($39); Savor ($65); or Excellence ($95) per a person, to include all three courses and wines. The menu changes on Friday and Saturday night and the price points go up slightly for each course, but Amour Wine Bistro keeps its website updated with the current menus and price points for everything.
The restaurant is closed on Sunday night and Monday, but it does offer a three-course Sunday champagne brunch (starting at $39 per a person) and weekday lunch, which can be ordered with or without wine.
For owner Paul Hetiz it’s all about providing Richmond diners with a unique, luxurious dining experience, where they can sit back, enjoy good food and wine, and be pampered, one course at a time.
