Philip Moeller
Philip Moeller is an experienced journalist, entrepreneur and communications executive. He has built and managed news staffs, won major awards with his own writing, and founded an award-winning Internet business. His consulting firm, JD Communications , is based in Richmond, Virginia.
Phil was in charge of corporate communications from 2005 to 2007 at Genworth Financial , a GE insurance and financial services spin-off that went public in 2004. He managed global public and media relations, and oversaw the annual report at this Fortune 250 company.
From 1994 to 2002, Phil founded and built insure.com into the Web's leading site for insurance information, with an audience of nearly two million unique monthly users and a staff of journalists that provided original insurance content to the Web's leading business portals, including Microsoft, Yahoo, America Online and MarketWatch. In 2000, when Columbia University inaugurated an awards program to honor the best online journalism, insure.com was one of five Web sites named finalists for overall excellence on the Web. Phil sold his company in 2001 to Quotesmith Inc. and was a senior vice president at this publicly traded insurance brokerage and information company.
Earlier in his career, Phil was a business writer, columnist and editor for several newspapers, including The Baltimore Sun , Louisville Courier-Journal , Chicago Sun-Times and Charlotte Observer . He and his staffs won major business journalism awards and he was an active leader in business journalism for more than a decade, serving as a governor and president of the Society of American Newspaper Editors and Writers.
Phil graduated from Princeton University , has a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and studied economics at Columbia University as a Walter Bagehot Fellow. He also taught business journalism for two years at Medill.
