Monday, Aug. 25

w Capitol Ale House's 2nd Annual Beer Geek Week starts today with some of the rarest, sweetest, strongest, high gravity brews they could find. Click here for more beer week info.

 

Tuesday, Aug. 26

w Learn about four generations of Virginia women who spent their lives involved with the arts. Julia Anne Morrison Blount, an artist and musician who died in 1877, was the mother of Sallie Lee Blount Mahood, an accomplished painter who studied in Paris. Helen Mahood McGehee, daughter of Sallie, helped found the Tampa Art Institute and was a violist for the Tampa Symphony Orchestra. Her daughter, Helen McGehee Umaña, is a world renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher. This exhibit will include paintings, drawings, photographs, video clips and sculpture related to these talented women. The Virginia Historical Society is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for students and free for children under 18.

   

Thursday, Aug. 28

w Come learn how to play the Chinese game Mahjong , a game of skill, strategy, intelligence, calculation and luck! Both American and Chinese versions of the game are played for free from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Deep Run Park, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway.

 

Friday, Aug. 29

w Edgar Allan Poe Comes Alive in the Siegel Studio of the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Presented by Traveling Jones Theater, the one-man show includes word for word, hair-raising performances of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Raven," "Annabel Lee," "Eldorado," "The Conqueror Worm," "Spirits of the Dead," "The Masque of the Red Death" and "A Dream Within a Dream." Expect an exceptional night at the theater. Tonight's show starts at 8 p.m. and admission costs $12. For ticket information, call (804) 261-ARTS (2787). The center is located at 2880 Mountain Road in Glen Allen.

 

Saturday, Aug. 30

w So you think you can make me laugh, huh? Prove it at 7:30 p.m. at ComedySportz Improve Theatre .

 

Sunday, Aug. 31

w There are just two games left for our Richmond Braves and today's is one of them. The Braves take on the Norfolk Tides at 2 p.m. at the Diamond. Tickets range in cost from $5 to $12.

 

Government This Week

Tuesday, Aug. 26

w The Henrico County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. in the board room of the administrative building in the Henrico County Government Center at 4301 East Parham Road.

             

Wednesday, Aug. 27

w The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors starts its meeting at 3 p.m., with a break from 5 to 6:30, in the public meeting room of the County Administration Building, 10001 Iron Bridge Road.
