Girls Gone Bad
This is the time of year when it's all Christmas all the time. Or so it seems.
Just glance at any local calendar of events . From Santa meet-and-greets and holiday concerts to Christmas-themed plays, tacky lights, The Nutcracker and holiday house tours, there's plenty going on in the city -- as long as you're interested in a little Yuletide cheer.
Whole radio stations have given over the airwaves to holiday music (starting days before Thanksgiving as opposed to the traditional day after), every other ad on the television is for a just-in-time-for Christmas sale and those of us in the arts and entertainment media have been covering Santa and his impending arrival like it's the next Watergate.
Yes, Christmas and its associated celebrations tend to dominate the last month (or three) of every year. So much so that many of us tend to forget that everyone in the world, including Richmond, doesn't actually celebrate Christmas. And even for those of us who do celebrate it … well, sometimes we could use a break.
Luckily, this weekend there is something different going on. " Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad " "is a night of comedy, music and burlesque, told by the gals who learned to smoke at Hebrew School, got drunk at their Bat-Mitzvahs and would rather have more schtuppa than the chupah." This evening of fun happens at the Camel this Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m. Call (804) 353-4901 for ticket info.
