Monday, May 12

w Globehopper Coffeehouse and Lounge will offer an open discussion on local foods starting at 6:30 p.m. It's part of the shop's Back Porch Conversations series. Tonight, they'll watch The Greenhorns, a documentary that explores the lives of America's young farming community. Join the group to discuss the new wave of American agriculture and explore ways to eat locally and seasonally in Richmond. Globehopper is located at 2100 E. Main St.

Tuesday, May 13

w Get your creative juices flowing as award-wining poet Joshua Poteat joins Visual Arts Center poetry instructors and students in an evening of poetry readings co-sponsored by the Library of Virginia and the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. A reception will follow the readings. The free event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Library of Virginia.

w Tap tap tap! The Richmond Jazz Society will tribute to legendary tap dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson with famed tap dancer Baakari Wilder accompanied by the Bob Hallahan Trio. Tickets are $7 with valid student or jazz society ID card or $10 for the general public. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Capital Ale House, 623 E. Main St.

Wednesday, May 14

w 90's favorite acts Live and the Gin Blossoms will come to Innsbrook After Hours. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $35 for the Gold Circle area. Tickets can be bought at Plan 9, Capital Ale House, Spinnakers Restaurant or by calling (804)794-6700.

Thursday, May 15

w Want to get a new job, improve your business or just get to know more Richmond professionals? Then check out the Greater Richmond Chamber's annual Schmooza Palooza – Annual Picnic. The event features music, silent auction and plenty of networking opportunities. The picnic will be held at the University of Richmond's Westhampton Green from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets range in cost from $25 to $35 per person. w Enjoy 3rd Thursdays at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The gallery event features themed-nights with the latest in DJ dance parties, food and specialty drinks and art tasting tours. Bring out your creative muse with hands-on and brain-engaged creative activities led by artist Megan Liles. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids age 12 to 17 and free for kids under 12.

w Stuffed squash, roasted lamb and shrimp kabobs. Is your mouth watering yet? These are just three of the items on the menu at the 24th annual Lebanese Food Festival, which starts today and lasts through Sunday. The festival, held rain or shine, will feature homemade Lebanese food, sweet desserts, live music and folk dancing. Admission and parking is free, and a la carte, sit-down dinners and take-out is available. The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church, 4611 Sadler Road in Glen Allen/Innsbrook.

w Take in a laugh with The Little Dog Laughed at the Barksdale Theater . Tonight's show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $38 with a $3 discount for Ukrops' card holders. The show is about Hollywood superagent Diane who is struggling to transform her budding leading man into the next Orlando Bloom, but she encounters one small problem. He may well be falling hard for the cute male escort who recently visited his hotel room in New York. At times comic and poignant, the play is showing through Sunday.

Saturday, May 17

w Find out what life was like for an original soldier at the Musket, Sword and Pike event at Henricus Historical Park today and Sunday. Visit with the soldiers in the Citie of Henricus, participate in a drill with the Henricus Militia and see demonstrations of period tactics, armor, weaponry and artillery, including cannon firings at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children. w Stop and smell the roses, and everything else grown with love in the 2008 Ginter Park Garden Tour. Twelve gardens will be open to the public with drawings for gift certificates from local merchants featured in many of them. Mini-bus transportation will be provided, stopping at or near all of the gardens, or visitors may drive to the various gardens on their own. The tour is from noon to 5 p.m. and tickets cost $10 today or $8 in advance. Tickets can be purchased at Azalea Garden Center, Designs By Ron, Once Upon A Vine, Sneeds Landscape & Garden Center and Vogue Flowers & Flower Market among others.

Sunday, May 18

w A fun new food fest comes to Richmond today. Broad Appétit will take place on three blocks of West Broad Street from noon to 5 p.m. Of course there will be food, including lots from Richmond's favorite foodies, but there will also be several musical acts and an art show. The free event will held in the 100 to 300 blocks of West Broad Street.

w Take a guided stroll down the first street in the country to be designated as a national landmark. Monument Avenue is one of America's most beautiful boulevards. During the Heroes, Homes and Residents tour, sponsored by the Valentine Richmond History Center , you can learn about the diverse architectural styles of its grand town houses, their famous owners and respective architects. Meet your guide at the Lee Monument at Allen and Monument avenues. The tour is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets range in cost from $9 to $10 to $5 for history center members.

Government This Week Monday, May 12

w Richmond City Council will meet informally at 3 p.m. in the second floor council chambers of City Hall, and formally at 6 p.m.

w The GRTC Transit System will hold a public meeting to receive comments on the agency's Comprehensive Operational Analysis, which includes recommendations for improved service, including cutting and streamlining certain routes. The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Children's Museum of Richmond, 2626 W. Broad St.

Tuesday, May 13

w The Henrico County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. in the board room of the administrative building in the Henrico County Goverment Center at 4301 East Parham Road.

Wednesday, May 14

w Richmond City Councilwoman Kathy Graziano (4th) will hold the first of two meetings to hear discussion of proposed major street widening projects. Tonight's meeting, which will include discussion about widening Forest Hill Avenue from Powhite Parkway west to Hathaway Road, is from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7757 Chippenham Parkway. Friday, May 16
