Lights Please!

No one's holiday is complete without seeing something light up. This holiday, be ready for the biggest and brightest illuminations 'cause we tell you when they happen and where to find them.

 

These light-ups are sure to be a must-see spectacle of the holidays and bring to life the spirit of the holidays.

 

GardenFest of Lights

 

The spectacular lights at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens begin its first illumination on Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The GardenFest of Lights features more than 500,000 lights all around the garden with dinners available. Storytelling is for children is available on Mondays beginning Dec. 1. This event will be $10 for adults and $6 for kids.

 

Jefferson Hotel Tree Lighting

 

The tree will be lit on Monday, Dec.1 at 5:30 p.m. and will feature a live concert. The ceremony will also be celebrated with the arrival of Christmas characters down the Jefferson's stairs at 6 p.m. and conclude with Santa Claus. This event is free.

 

National Tree of Life Lighting

 

The National Tree of Life Lighting will be illuminated in honor of organ donors and the family members of the donors will decorate the tree with ornaments in their memory. This will begin on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. at 700 N. 4th   St. and is open to the public.

 

Grand Illumination

 

The downtown illumination celebrates the beginning of the holiday season not only with lights but, with music, the Snow Queen and of course, Santa Claus. All the lights for downtown can be seen at 1051 East Cary Street at the James Center Atrium and will be lit up on Dec. 5 at 6: 25 p.m. The Varina High School Marching Band will perform holiday favorites and The Sugar Plum Fairy from the Richmond Ballet will make a magical appearance too. This event is free.

 

Parade of lights on the James

 

Boaters on Dec. 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. can show off their decorations to spectators at Libby Hill Park (corner of 28th and Franklin) as well as locations in Henrico and Chesterfield. Boater registration and more information should call (804) 717-6681.
