Cyber Monday
Monday, Dec, 1 at 3:45 p.m. It's getting close to the end of the day and some of the sales are winding down. So let's forget about you for a minute and focus on some of the deals that I've found today. Mom, I hope you're reading. Circuitcity.com has a SanDisk MP3 player on sale for $19.99 . I got one last year for twice the price, but my boyfriend stole it so now I need another. Fifteen percent off down bedding at Overstock.com … that means it might be time for new Down Comforter . And while I'm at it, why not add some new sheets since they're an extra 10 percent off. Over at TigerDirect.com there's a 32-inch flat screen TV for only $399 … should be I concerned that it's a brand no one has ever heard of? Let's forget that one then and I'll console myself with a jewel-tone jacket that's half off for $41.99 at Kohl's, plus, today only, an additional 15 percent off. ---------------------------------------- Monday, Dec, 1 at 1:30 p.m. Who would have thunk it -- PBS is onboard with Cyber Monday shopping? You've got to be kidding me. But there they are. Shopps.org is offering 30 percent off its best-selling DVDs, $10 off coupons and free shipping. If doesn't sound that exciting then think about how many dads, grandfathers, boyfriends and husbands have Ken Burns' series "The War" on their Christmas list. But forget about the guys, New York & Co. has 30 percent off everything today with the coupon code 1074. And it seems that I was wrong about smartbargains.com . Though its site advertises free shipping on orders over $75, Cyber Monday sites are saying it's free period, plus a dozen or so other deals. Guess you'll have to click around for more. If you're looking for something for the kids, then head over to Toys R Us for is Cyber Monday deals, like 50 percent off select Wii games. Monday, Dec, 1 at noon I'm ashamed of online-only retailers today, simply ashamed. While my personal favorite, overstock.com , is doing OK, offering 5 percent off furniture (yawn) and free shipping (bigger yawn), its competitor, smartbargains.com is down-right insulting with its free shipping on orders over $75. On Cyber Monday? For real? I could do better searching for a coupon code. But it's the brick and mortar stores that are really going crazy with the deals today. Teen retailer Aeropostale is offering 50 to 75 percent of everything (excluding sale items and perfume), Barnes & Noble is giving shoppers 15 percent off one book (OK, not that good, but it's something) and Lucky Brand jeans are 40 percent off until noon PST time today. I repeat, Lucky jeans are 40 percent off for the next few hours … hurry!

Monday, Dec, 1 at 10 a.m.
Today is Cyber Monday , that unofficial Hallmark holiday made up by some retailer somewhere in order to send shoppers into a frenzy about rock-bottom deals and closeout sales.
Cyber Monday is supposed to mark the first post-holiday Monday back at the office when the American workforce is said to spend its day trolling the Web for online deals, rather than catching up on missed emails.
And much like Black Friday , regardless of whether you're into shopping, it's pretty hard not to click around a little and check out the sales.
Unlike Black Friday though, Cyber Monday does not require the shopper to camp out pre-dawn and then stampeded through the store at full speed. It also doesn't have the same risks (I believe at last count the Black Friday body count was at three).
Of course, less risk means less reward. In years past, Cyber Monday deals have been pathetic, to put it bluntly. Free shipping on orders over $8,000, 3 percent off hunter-green dishtowels if purchased along side a toaster oven and $2 off all chainsaw purchases over $750 -- the kind of deals that require the fine print to be read closely.
Still, there are a few deals worth checking out today … I hope. Sites like cybermonday.com and cyber-monday.org are a few of the places where Cyber Monday deals are being posted. And I'm here to help.
I plan to spend the day checking out the Web for the best deals and posting them throughout the day. At least as long as I'm at work and at my desk. That is, after all, the spirit of the holiday. And if you spot a Cyber Monday sale worth looking into, post it in the comments section below or email it to kpeifer@richmond.com so we can add it to the list.
