Renewal and Peace at Virginia Tech
Two years ago today news of the mass murders at Virginia Tech trickled slowly into our newsrooms. Reports of a gunman turned to reports of multiple casualties. We watched, listened and scrambled for information.
Then, we grieved as the story of what happened at Virginia Tech was told.
We know now that 32 people were killed, who Seung-Hui Cho was and why he says the rampage occurred. We have more information, but that doesn't mean that we truly understand.
The Virginia Tech community is moving forward from the 2007 tragedy, reopening Norris Hall and trying to make peace with the mass murders. Survivors tell their unique stories and families look for ways to honor their sons, daughters, husbands and wives.
Richmond is full of lifelong Hokies who called Blacksburg home for at least a few years. You've seen the Virginia Tech flags on their cars, and you've heard them root for their favorite college team.
But on the anniversary of the tragedy at Virginia Tech we all still feel the impact Cho's rampage had on the school, Blacksburg and larger community of people who were affected by the violence. The list of victims is long.
We stand beside Richmonders, Hokies and those who are one in the same in remembering a campus and community forever changed. We hope for continued renewal and peace at Virginia Tech.
