It's been said that history repeats itself. The same is true for fashion.

The date may be 2009, but that doesn't mean we're not rocking the fashion threads of the 1990s . Yes, that's right. I said '90s .

Now, before you start reminiscing about "back when" I don't want you to get too freaked out about the idea and cringe at the thought of anything from the '90s   era.

It's important to know that even though the trends of the '90s   are roaring in the fashion world today this does not mean that the fashions are what they used to be.

Note to readers: When I say '90s   fashion is making a comeback this does not mean that things of the following nature are allowed:

Permed and teased hair with unearthly amounts of hairspray Slap Bracelettes Scrunchies

To make sure you are pulling off your own '90s   comeback look, it's important to follow trendsetters such as Agyness Deyns , the fashion "It" girl of Britain. Check out these fashion options similar to Agyness Deyns that are available at an affordable price.

Checkered and Plaid Flannel Shirts

I'm sure you have seen tons of people wearing the checkered and plaid flannels shirts. If you haven't, then you live under a rock. Although I use the word flannel to describe the shirts, this does not mean that they are all actually made of flannel.

It also does not mean that I'm telling you to go to Eddie Bauer and buy a mens' XL flannel shirt that comes down to your knees. Instead, I'm telling you to look for options similar to this Checkered Woven Shirt and the Plaid Babydoll Tank , both $17.90 at Forever21 .

Neon Colors

Neon colors can be tricky. It's important not to over do it. Should you wear a neon colored shirt with neon spandex leggings and a multi-colored neon bag? No! Are you crazy???

I would recommend pairing one neon fashion item with something not of the neon nature.

For instances, you could wear the Nylon Tricot Legging in a bright neon color with a longer black top and high black pumps. An outfit perfect for a Friday night concert. If you want to take it up a notch and really channel your inner '90s you could try the Shiny High-Waist Hot Short . Both items can be found at  American Apparel  ranging from $28 to $34.

Acid & Stone Washed Jeans and Ripped Tights

It's time to take straight leg jeans to a new level. You can pair vintage rocker tees and layered tops with the Cheap Monday Tight Jean and the Silence & Noise Blotchy Back Twig Jean . These jeans can be worn with stylish platform shoes or knee high boots. Jeans can be found at Urban Outfitters , approximately $70 a pair.

Are jeans not your thing? Are you more of a dress and tights kind of girl? Well, grab some scissors and start cutting holes in those tights if you want to keep up with the trends. Remember the tights are still meant to cover the majority of your leg so be careful not to go overboard with the cutting.

Dr. Martens Are Back

If you are smart, you still have those Dr. Martens up in your attic. If so, it's time to pull them out and wipe off the dust. These heavy, hardcore boots are being paired with skinny jeans, tights and leggings. They come in all different color and styles. In fact, you can even purchase gladiator-style Dr. Martens.
