Up and coming New York indie rockers Lights Resolve are coming to The Camel, the only café in Richmond able to cross a desert without a taking a drink. Also playing are Atlanta's Elevation and New Jersey's Lady Radiator.

The Wu Tang Clan's musical dynasty has spawned more styles of hard rap than the Chinese Shaolin Temple did styles of kung fu. At The National.
Yukon plays the kind of mathy prog-rock that Richmond bands specialized in with Einsteinian precision. They are at The Triple with RVA's ever classy Amoeba Men, Blood Banks and La Mere Vipere , not the gay bar, but the band from here in Fist City.
Friday, Jan. 9
Two Richmond bands you may not have heard of before tonight at The Triple, Lost Satellites and Fair Minded Fools .
They claim to be not just a band, but a way of life. Which means that Ann Arbor band Taproot are tapering and that they grow vertically downward at Toad's Place tonight. With Soul's Harbor, Dear Enemy and Saint Diablo.
Lovers of Django will like the Gypsy Roots Jazz playing tonight at Ashland Coffee and Tea.
Saturday, Jan. 10
Straight from Dorktown, where they play old school punk all the time over loudspeakers, it's the Nerve Scheme , with fellow travelers Incomplete Heroes and the furious US Brass .
Homegrown talent night at the Capital Ale House tonight with rockers Duchess of York and Gills and Wings (to me they have a definite fascination with Queen) at the Capital Ale House.
The second annual River City Remembrance for Kate Robertson, who was tragically murdered in 2006, will be held tonight at Alley Katz. Death, horror and skeletons tonight at The Triple in the form of The Accordian Death Squad, Horror Show Hot Club and Skeletonbreath .
Two bands in a psych-folk vein from Brunswick, NJ tonight at The Camel, Glad Hearts and Starfish HQ are playing with the hometown king of racket, Gull.
Monday, Jan. 12
A very lively and thriving central Virginia folk scene, including cross pollination from both the C'ville and Richmond's scenes, has quietly been building steam the past several years. And so it is that C'ville's Ward Combs will be at The Camel with Six .
Tuesday, Jan. 13
Another in the Richmond Jazz Society Guest Educator Series, this month's program is "A Tribute to Miles Davis," featuring trumpeter Tom Browne at Capital Ale House .
