Remotely Interesting
This Sunday is the biggest TV day of the year.
Across the country millions of people will spend the day huddled around the television, stuffing themselves with chips, giant sandwiches, beer, pizza rolls and meatball subs. And they'll do it all while watching two football teams (one of which I thought was a baseball team) faceoff in Super Bowl XLIII.
They'll do it because Super Bowl Sunday and all the face stuffing and screaming that goes with it is an American tradition; it's simply what we do on Super Bowl Sunday.
But doesn't the whole thing sound awful?
The beer, the crappy food, the lack of adequate seating in a poorly decorated living room that's dominated by a TV that cost more than my car and, of course, the part about watching football for the better part of a day -- the whole thing just sounds like a terrible way to spend a Sunday night.
So for those of you out there who, like me, would rather set yourself on fire than watch the Super Bowl, I have a few TV alternatives for you. It's the best kind of TV of all -- the marathon kind.
"House"
It's a full day of everyone's favorite grouchy doctor, "House," starting at 11 a.m. on USA Network.
"The Closer"
If crime drama is more your thing then check out "The Closer" on TNT (and try to forgive the fact that this show is being aired in lieu of a "Law & Order" marathon. It starts at noon.
"The Sopranos"
Frankly, we all know that it really isn't worth it to watch this show on A&E, but it's an option … and it's a day of far too few decent TV options. It starts at noon.
"CSI"
The original is still the best … and quite possibly the only good version of this franchise. Its marathon stars at noon on Spike.
"MythBusters"
Over on Discovery Channel it's a full day of everyone's boyfriend's favorite show (aside of "Ninja Warrior"). The fun starts at 9 a.m.
"Biography"
Bios of your favorite serial killers starts at 11 a.m. on BIO Channel. Biographies, of serial killers. On Super Bowl Sunday. So we've got "The Sopranos," "MythBusters," "CSI" and serial killers … just who do TV programmers think are not watching football that day?
"Law & Order Criminal Intent"
Finally, something I want to watch … a couple of hours of L&O: CI on Bravo, timed to start at 6 p.m., right along with the Super Bowl.
Did we miss your favorite TV marathon airing this week? Just add it to the comment section below.
