The Sweetheart 8K
The Sweetheart 8K , organized by the Richmond Road Runners Club, is a casual race in the suburbs of Midlothian. If you and your significant other enjoy being active together, this can be a great way to start off your Valentine's Day on the right foot.
"The Sweetheart race is not the usual 5K, but instead an 8K. It offers a little more distance but not so long that will require months of training," said race director, Jen Brumfield.
The moderately hilly course winds through the Grove subdivision's streets and trails. It starts and finishes near the Grove's clubhouse, where an informal awards ceremony is held after the race. In Valentine's Day spirit, an award is given to the top three couples, as well as the top three males and females.
The race isn't only for Sweethearts. "Anyone can be considered a couple, whether it be siblings, friends or running buddies," Brumfield said.
The race is generally held on a Saturday close to Valentine's Day, but this year is special and with Valentine's Day falling on a Saturday you can run the race on the big day – February 14, 2009.
