Getting hungry for this weekend's Broad Appetit?

More than 60 local restaurants will be whipping up "sample" dishes for $3 a pop or $5 for combination plates pairing savory with sweet dishes.  Sample sizes are expected to be around four ounces, although final portions are left up to the chefs.

Whet your appetite by checking out what these restaurants will be serving at Sunday's foodie fest extravaganza.

1 N. Belmont

Beef croquettes served with a Sriracha mustard sauce.  Similar to snack food served in the Netherlands, the beef croquettes are rolled in egg yolks and breadcrumbs and then deep-fried. 1 N. Belmont has received a four-star diamond rating from AAA for several years and we get to sample their high falutin' fare for only $3 at Broad Appetit. Yum.

Acacia Mid-Town

Acacia Mid-Town will be serving sugar toads with Southern-style coleslaw.  Sugar toads are a Northern puffer fish and Acacia will be frying them in a light tempura batter for the festival.  "They're delicious," their chef tells us. They also hope to serve a tempura shittake for vegetarians.

Bacchus

Fried goat cheese on local organic mixed greens with toasted nuts and julienne beets.  Also their signature chocolate peanut butter pie.

Bistro 27

The European-inspired Broad Street bistro will be serving a chicken and spinach cannoli, as well as a shrimp skewer in a roasted tomato and mango salsa.  Their food is quite good, if you haven't been to Bistro 27, make sure to stop by their stall at the festival.

Cafe Rustica

Chef Andy Howell will be serving his Mediterranean seafood shortstack which are seafood cakes with shrimp, crab and scallop served with a lemon dill aioli.  For dessert, they'll have griddled poundcake with lemon curd and fresh local berries. I had both these items for lunch the other day and they were incredible!  The seafood shortstack carries over from Andy's restaurant at Avenue 805 and the griddled poundcake is beyond description, light, sugary, and simply delicious.

Comfort

Comfort will be serving their surry sausage appetizer with smoked surry sausage, mesclun greens and grape tomatoes with a mustard vinaigrette.  If there's room, they'll also be serving pimento cheese with a pickle on crostini and a cucumber and tomato salad.  Also Orange Nehi and Cheerwine, an old-school cherry flavored soda, to drink.

Cous Cous

Cous Cous will be serving chicken tagine and tofu bastilla.  The chicken will be served over cous cous in a Morroccan marina sauce with peppers, onions and squash.  The tofu is like a vegetarian pot pie stuffed with almonds, onions, mixed apricots and wrapped in phyllo dough.

Julep's

Shockoe Slip's fancy restaurant will be serving southern pickled shrimp, a South Carolina dish with chilled, pickled shrimp served with a mixture of capers and lemon juice, perfect for summer snacking.

Kitchen 64

The West End favorite from the Giavos family (also owners of 3 Monkeys and Gibson's Grill, the latter of which will also be at the festival) will be serving a mini-Scott's Addition, chicken penne and peanut butter pie.  Scott's Addition is a popular sandwich with grilled onions, mushrooms, au jus and horseradish on the side.

Kuba Kuba

"We're doing what we do best," Kuba Kuba says. "Our world famous tres leche cake and Cuban sandwiches."  Both are simply delicious.  The Cuban features pulled pork, yellow mustard, pickle and ham on crusty bread and the tres leche cake is a fluffy, yellow concoction of sugar and butter with creamy white icing.

Positive Vibe Cafe

Forest Hill's Positive Vibe Cafe was the runner-up last year with their tuna seviche salad and lotus chips.  This year, chef J Frank will be making a grilled and chilled salmon with sauce vert, as well as homemade double vanilla bean ice cream with millionaire's shortbread.

Savor

Manchester's Savor will be serving Asian style mini pork barbecue sandwiches with homemade coleslaw.  Watch a video of chef Ellie Basch preparing her signature dish (everything she makes is fresh, light and delicious.)

The Bull & Bear Club

The private club will be serving their lump crabcakes bound with a scallop mousse.

The Black Sheep

Everybody's always raving about The Black Sheep.  If you haven't checked out their Carver cafe, try their Moroccan lamb with a chickpea stew and pita bread as well as the Black Sheep banana pudding at the festival.

These are just a handful of the restaurants you'll find at Sunday's Broad Appetit.  For a full list, check out the website.  And get your tastebuds ready for Broad Appetit.
