Pandora founder to speak in Richmond
Pandora founder Tim Westergren
Pandora founder Tim Westergren loves music and loves talking about it even more.
He will be holding an informal town hall style meeting with Pandora users and music lovers at the Grace Street Theater on Monday evening, June 29 at 7pm.
Pandora is an Internet radio and music recommendation service created by Westergren and his company, the Music Genome Project. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by playing selections that are musically similar.
At the informal gathering, Westergren will share some Pandora history, background on the Music Genome Project, and the company's visions for the future.
"We started this to try to get out in the community and meet and talk to Pandora users and listeners," he says. "With today's online culture, we have a habit of not communicating directly with people."
Westergren says that the forums are a good way to get feedback from Pandora's users. They have the chance to interact and ask questions with an actual founder of a company.
Westergren loves discussing music with other music lovers and feels that these types of gatherings bring the music-loving community closer together.
"The most significant thing I see at these meetings is how passionate people are about music," he says. "Complete strangers will get together and discuss music for hours. You really see how much it matters to people."
"It's like a musical revival."
Andrew Cothern is an avid music fan and is listening to Pandora as he writes this.
