Picks from what's hot on independent and satellite radio ... because I have all day to scour music blogs for fresh new music, and ... you might not.

First off, for all you Phish fans: Phish is offering FREE downloads of their live shows in VA this past weekend (March 6, 7 and 8). Click here to access the 256kbps MP3 downloads today. They're only available for a limited time.

It was recently announced that Manchester Orchestra is making their way back through Richmond. This is fantastic news. They'll be playing the National April 24. I've included their newest single "I've Got Friends" from their upcoming release, Mean Everything to Nothing , out April 21. I've Got Friends - Manchester Orchestra

Phoenix 's latest single, "1901", is available as a free download from their website . You'll have to wait til May 25 for the CD to release, though. I first discovered Phoenix when I heard another single "Too Young" - it's just too catchy not to notice. 1901 - Phoenix

"Zero" is the latest endeavor by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs . Karen O and company really get things shakin' in this one. Her voice oozes sex appeal. This would be a fun song for Rock Band, if they're willing to add the keyboard to their repertoire of instruments. I hope Harmonix is listening. "Zero" from It's Blitz! - Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Digital version avail. Mar. 9, physical copies will have to wait til Mar. 31.

Mt. St. Helens Vietman Band released their self-titled album yesterday. "Who's Asking" and "Cheer for Fate", two of their new tracks, are available on their myspace . Think Modest Mouse with a little more estrogen.

Slowing things down a bit; Trespassers William offer a free mp3 download (rt-click "save target as") of their newest single "Sparrow" from their May 25 release The Natural Order of Things . Different Stars - Trespassers William

Last but surely not least, is Animal Collective , because it's getting way too mellow in here. Quite possibly, you've already heard about their latest album Merriweather Post Pavilion (clearly a shout-out to their Baltimorean roots), but in case you haven't...visit their myspace to hear a sample of their new stuff. "My Girls" is a personal fave. AC's not for everyone, that's for sure, but their latest effort might be their most accessible yet. They're consistent in that they consistently change the game. "My Girls" - Animal Collective. ( singing: Whooo! )

I had to include this because it's relevant and hysterical. (These elderly persons review Young Jeezy and Animal Collective. She loves Jeezy but disses AC, random.)
