Puppets for Adults
Avenue Q, the naughty little musical acted out by puppets, visits the new Carpenter Theatre this week.
And this is no musical version of Sesame Street on stage, kids.
It's about Princeton, a college grad who moves to the big Apple with big dreams but short on cash. He ends up in an apartment on Avenue Q, a notoriously seedy neighborhood in New York. Princeton meets his neighbors; Brian, the out-of-work comedian, an Internet (porn) addict known as Trekkie Monster and the cute kindergarten teacher named Kate.
Not intended for kids, Avenue Q is puppets for adults with prostitutes, porn addicts and heavy drinkers. But it's all in good fun and mostly about all kinds of characters in search of the great American dream.
Even if Avenue Q isn't exactly our cup of tea, it is a national touring act and new to Richmond -- the kind of brand new performances we're hoping that we'll see more of at the new Richmond CenterStage.
