Overstuffed At Work
Do you work with someone who hoards things in their office?
I was quoted in an article a while back and it included a photo of a woman sitting at her desk, surrounded by towers of paper and stuff. She worked on top of and along side complete clutter. She was quoted as saying she is fine with her clutter and that she knows where everything is. I don't doubt she knows where everything is in her office. People like her have developed great coping skills.
Consequently, a friend of mine worked with a person who hoards. His office was stuffed with boxes of papers, knick-knacks and dead plants. If you touched his dead plants he would be furious. He did not consider them trash.
What about the confidential information that could be on the documents lying around? Or the possibility of theft. If the office is full of clutter, would anyone know things were missing? And what about safety? If a fire breaks out, what would happen?
Does your workplace have a clean desk policy? Have you confronted someone at work because of the condition of their office? How did you handle it? Inquiring minds want to know. Please share your story.
