The Fix: Picks of The Week
My dear colleague, Colleen Curran, who usually brings you the best event picks of the week in her blog "The Fix," is in what we former restaurant people refer to as "the weeds."
If you’ve ever worked in restaurants, you know what I mean. It’s when you’ve got food up for two tables, you’ve just been double-sat, everyone needs to be re-watered and grandma at 9 will drop dead if she’s served anything other than decaf (and swears she can smell the freshness from here).
In other words, she’s busy. Colleen is working on our soon-to-be unveiled Tacky Lights Holiday Guide that promises to be the best online resource for Tacky Lights in Richmond.
So today, you’ve got me and my picks for what to do this week.
Poe: Man, Myth, or Monster Exhibition at The Library of Virginia
The 200th anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe’s birth is still going strong and you can still check it out at Library of Virginia all week. This exhibit "explores the myths and legends surrounding Poe."
Annual Book Fair and Gift Shop at the Weinstein JCC
This is one of my favorite events of the year. According to the event description, "For over 25 years, the Weinstein JCC has celebrated Jewish Books and Authors at its annual Book Fair. Our goal is to educate the community about Jewish literature and to stimulate discussion and thought regarding current Jewish issues, history, philosophy, literature and poetry." For me, it’s the best place in town to pick up Hanukah decorations, so either / or.
Girls' Night Out - Holiday Me! at Markel Essex Salons in Glen Allen
Wine, refreshments, gift ideas and holiday decorating … what fun!
The Portent: John Brown’s Raid in American Memory at Virginia Historical Society
All week of at the VHS, learn that history can be fun: "This exhibition presents a thorough and balanced view of John Brown’s raid on the Federal Armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia."
The Art of Remembrance- A Retrospective of the Holocaust at Virginia Holocaust Museum
The Virginia Holocaust Museum is great on any day of the week, but this exhibition of seven sculptures that "portray the memories and experiences of Holocaust survivors" is definitely worth checking out.
Weekly Dinner Specials at Richmond Restaurants
It’s my favorite thing to do!
