Returning Shows:

SNL Weekend Update Thursday
Thursday, Sept. 17
8 p.m. on NBC
SNL’s beloved Weekend Update returns for its special mid-week spot.  But far as we know, Seth Meyers is still flying the desk solo and there’s no word on who his co-anchor will be.  We sorely miss Amy Poehler as his trusty sidekick.  They better get him somebody fast, because Seth Meyer can’t carry this show on his own.  And don’t count on Michaela Watkins (of “Bitch, pleez” fame”) or Casey Wilson to make an appearance, both ladies were fired from SNL earlier this month.

Bones
Thursday, Sept. 17
8 p.m. on FOX
"Angel" fans who’ve become "Bones" fans, mark your calendar.

Parks and Recreation
Thursday, Sept. 17
8:30 p.m. on NBC
Amy Poehler’s funny, but this show is sort of sad.  Still, tune in if you want to see if she’ll ever get her giant pit filled or whatever.

Fringe
Thursday, Sept. 17
9 p.m. on Fox
Fills a much-needed void for the X-Files set, even if it’s not as good.  The Fringe-slash-Scooby set return for another season of mystery and macabre.

The Office
Thursday, Sept. 17
9:30 p.m. on NBC
Yay, they’re back.  Last season’s cliff-hanger left Michael musing on his relationship with Holly, and Jim and Pam are preggers!

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Thursday, Sept. 17
10 p.m. on FX
Guys with drinking problems love this weird and sometimes funny comedy with Danny Devito.  Don’t get upset.  Just ask yourself: are you a guy?  Do you have a beer in your hand?  Then it’s time to tune in!

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Sunday, Sept. 20
9 p.m. on HBO
After a two-year hiatus, HBO’s most eagerly-anticipated non-scripted sitcom returns…with a Seinfeld reunion  Oh Larry (and Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer), how we missed you so!

Heroes
Monday, Sept. 21
8 p.m. on NBC
“Heroes” returns with a two hour premiere.  Who are they trying to save/kill this time around?

Grey’s Anatomy
Thursday, Sept. 24
9 p.m. on ABC
Do people still watch this so?  Apparently, because a staffer piped right up (and we won’t tell you who it was to save her the embarrassment).  It returns this week.

Saturday Night Live
Saturday, Sept. 26
11:30 p.m. on NBC
Megan Fox and U2 headline the return of SNL.  Plus, keep an eye out for new lady staffers Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad.

The Simpsons
Sunday, Sept. 27
8 p.m. on FOX

Family Guy
Sunday, Sept. 27
9 p.m. on FOX

Dexter
Sunday, Sept. 27
9 p.m. on Showtime

The Hills
Tuesday, Sept. 29
10 p.m. on MTV
Kristin Cavallari replaces Lauren Conrad on "The Hills." And the Speidi saga continues.

The City
Tuesday, Sept. 29
10:30 p.m. on MTV
If you’re watching "The Hills," you might as well keep watching one more half-hour, right?

30 Rock
Thursday, Oct. 15
9:30 p.m. on NBC
You’ll have to wait until mid-October for this Emmy winner to return to prime-time.

Ugly Betty
Friday, October 9
8 p.m. on NBC

New to Try:

Melrose Place
In Progress, Tuesday nights
9 p.m. on CW
There’s no Heather Locklear, but there is Ashley Simpson-Wentz and a cheesy murder mystery.  Check out Mike Ward’s review for more.

Glee
In Progress, Wednesday nights
9 p.m. on FOX
The very buzzy new high school musical has this office talking already.

Vampire Diaries
In Progress, Thursday nights
8 p.m. on CW
“True Blood” fans, get your fix with this CW vamp dish.  Boone, from "Lost," also known as Ian Somerhalder stars as one bad ass bloodsucker.  One office staffer (bet you can guess who) gives this a thumbs-up already.

Community
Thursday, Sept. 17
9:30 p.m. on NBC
The lovely and delicious Joel McHale (from “The Soup”) stars on this new sitcom with Chevy Chase.  But we can’t get a read on it.  Are they making fun of community college?  Really?  In this economy?  We’ll see…

Bored to Death
Sunday, Sept. 20
9:30 p.m. on HBO
From writer Jonathan Ames with Jason Schwartzman playing Jonathan Ames and Ted Danson playing his editor.  We’re intrigued.  Not sure if it will be any good…but intrigued, yes.

Modern Family
Wednesday, Sept. 23
9 p.m. on ABC
Al Bundy returns to sitcoms.  And a gay couple with a kid.  And lots of other different kinds of families.  Plus everybody’s buzzing about this one.  Will it strike a chord?  Watch and see.

Eastwick
Wednesday, Sept. 23
10 p.m. on ABC
Based on “The Witches of Eastwick” and starring Rebecca Romijin.

FlashForward
Thursday, Sept. 24
8 p.m. on ABC
Big thriller getting the buzz treatment where the entire planet blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and flashes forward to a glimpse of their lives’ in the future.  Joseph Fiennes (of “Shakespeare in Love” fame) makes the jump from big screen to little in this weekly thriller.

Reality:

Top Chef
In Progress, Wednesdays
10 p.m. on BRAVO
Best season yet.  Set your DVRs now!

Project Runway
In Progress, Thursdays
10 p.m. on Lifetime
If you can’t find Lifetime on your set, do some investigating.  Heidi, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn are back and better than evah.

8:30 p.m. on CBS
New cast, new season in Samoa.

Dancing with the Stars

Jay Leno takes the helm in a new, earlier time slot.  Rejoice or don’t care.

Still to Come:

American Idol
January 2010
You’ll have to wait until next year to see Ellen Degeneres take over as judge for Paula Abdul.
