Richmond Races to Keep You Moving
Registration is now open for the Ukrop’s Monument 10K and YMCA’s all across Richmond will kick off their YMCA 10K Training Teams this Saturday, Jan. 16.
This year the Sports Backers are hoping to have 35,000 participants in the race that USA Today named one of the “10 great places for runners to hit the road.”
Before the big race hits our city there are plenty of other local races to keep you moving in 2010, thanks in great deal to the Richmond Road Runners Club.
This year will mark the 26th running for the Frostbite 15K that will take place on Jan. 24. The mostly flat course goes out Harrison through the neighborhood next to Maymont and into Byrd Park.
If you’re looking for a family friendly race try the Polar Bear 5K Run/Walk that includes a kid's mile at Crestwood Elementary on Feb. 6.
For couples who enjoy running together the Sweetheart 8K takes place in Midlothian on Feb. 13.
The course is a fairly hilly loop through the Grove sub-division. Unique to this event: an award is given to the top three couples. Couples don’t have to be sweethearts - siblings, family members, friends and running buddies can register as couples as well.
Also on Feb. 13, the I Heart Tree 5K run and walk will take place in Forest Hill Park. The race is organized by the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association and is unique because it welcomes strollers and leashed pets.
