Fireworks are back in action at the Diamond with the Flying Squirrels.

The fireworks are back in town!

After a year hiatus, the fireworks extravaganza Richmonders have come to love (and count on) are back in action at the Diamond with the Flying Squirrels. The Northside will be all aglow three nights with fireworks action when the Flying Squirrels take on the Erie Seawolves.

But the Diamond isn't the only spot where you can check out a great fireworks display.

You can catch splashy fireworks all over town this Fourth of July...from Chesterfield and Brandermill to Colonial Heights and Powhatan.

Thursday, July 1

The Flying Squirrels  - SOLD OUT

The Flying Squirrels will be host to three days of fireworks for the Fourth of July, starting on Thursday, continuing Saturday and Sunday. Tickets typically sell-out for the Fourth of July games (or they did during the Braves tenure), so if you're dying to go, book your tickets nows. 7:05 p.m. $6-10. Friday, July 2


Genworth Financial Celebrate Freedom Concert & Fireworks

Head to the Genworth Financial building at 6620 W. Broad St. for an all-American evening of music, fireworks and family fun. The annual event, now in its 27th year, features children’s activities and a concert by the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band. The free event starts at 6:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks start at approximately 8:45 p.m. Food vendors on site. Free and open to the public.

Fireworks at Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens explodes with fireworks over the park for the annual Fourth of July celebration, “Boom ‘n July.” The fireworks can be seen from several viewing points in the park Friday, July 2 through Sunday, July 4. Included in park admission, $61.95.


Saturday, July 3

The Flying Squirrels  - SOLD OUT

The Flying Squirrels take on the Erie Seawolves and host a huge fireworks display. If you miss Saturday's game, you'll have one more chance to catch the fireworks on Sunday, July 4. 6:35 p.m. $6-10. Check out our video of the fireworks at the Diamond.

Fireworks at Kings Dominion

Kings Dominion celebrates Independence Day with brilliant fireworks displays on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4. $33.99-$46.99.

Fireworks at Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens explodes with fireworks over the park for the annual Fourth of July celebration, “Boom ‘n July.” The fireworks can be seen from several viewing points in the park Friday, July 2 through Sunday, July 4. Included in park admission, $61.95.

Powhatan Independence Day Celebration  & Fireworks

The Hugenot Fire Department hosts their 2nd Annual Independence Day Celebration at the Flat Rock at the Gits Farm located at 2693 Rocky Oak Road just off US Route 60. Join the firefighters for fireworks, live music, kids' activities, bounce house, food, mechanical bull, classic car and fire engine show, and a host of other activities. Gates open at 5 p.m. with a massive fireworks display at dusk. Admission is $15 per car load, or $10 per car load with a canned food donation to the area food bank.

Parham Road Independence Day Parade & Festival

No fireworks at this one, but we thought you'd want to know about the parade. It features WTVR 6's Jon Burkett as the grand marshal, military personnel, police and fire vehicles and antique vehicles. The parade begins at 10 a.m.  It starts from the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church (Parham & Lansdowne) and ends at the parking lot of Parham Road Baptist Church, 2101 N. Parham Road.  Followed by a festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring inflatable games, a dunk tank, a cake walk, live music, Richmond Raiders arena football players, craft vendors, food and more. Free.

Sunday, July 4

Chesterfield County Fourth of July Celebration 

Enjoy food, fun, children's activities and free fireworks at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. The Kings of Swing will be performing and there will be a kids' area. Gates open at 5 p.m., fireworks after dark.

Colonial Heights Fireworks

No need to head into the city.  Colonial Heights throws its own 30-minute fireworks display off Charles Dimmock Parkway. Best viewing spots will be off Interstate 95, Exit 53 or 54 in the Southgate Square/Wal-Mart Area. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Bring chairs and blankets.  Free. 9:15 p.m.

Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks at Dogwood Dell

Head out to Dogwood Dell for free music and fireworks in celebration of Independence Day. The celebration starts at 5 p.m. with R & B harmonies from Bak N Da Day, vocalist Rachel Leyco at 6:15 p.m., a carillon concert at 6:45 p.m. and the Richmond Concert Band with patriotic melodies at 7:15 p.m. Followed by fireworks. Bring chairs and blankets for extra seating. Good viewing spots can also be seen from Riverside Drive south of the river. Extra parking available at the University of Richmond parking lot. A shuttle bus will run to Dogwood Dell.

Racing to the Stars & Stripes at Colonial Downs

A horse racing, concert and fireworks triple-header can be found at Colonial Downs starting at 5 p.m.  New Kent native Lyndsey Highlander and her seven-piece country band will travel from Nashville to perform a homecoming concert before and after the fireworks. Juggler/magician Jonathan Austin will be on hand, as well as free ice cream, kids activities, cartoons on the jumbotron, giveaways and lots more. There will also be an hour long "After Party" after the fireworks to help alleviate any post-race congestion in the parking lot. $2.

Ashland's Fourth of July Parade

The old-fashioned annual parade in Ashland draws hundreds of fans every year. This "people" parade encourages patriotic bicycles, tricycles, dogs ,and walkers to join in the fun. Participants gather at 1 p.m. at Henry Clay School. The parade is 1/4 mile and starts at 1:30 p.m., ending at Hanover Arts & Activities Center at 2 p.m. for a lawn party. Apple pie contest, children's crafts, children's games, Most Patriotic Pet awards, music and sing-along by Hanover Concert Band. No fireworks, just FYI.

Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration & Sky-Diving Shows

Head to Crump Park in Glen Allen for an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration with music, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and two sky diving shows with Uncle Sam. Live entertainment from Scattered Smothered and Covered, an acoustic roots band blending a mix of country blues, bluegrass and old time folk. No fireworks.

Flying Squirrels  - SOLD OUT

The Flying Squirrels take on the Erie Seawolves and host a huge fireworks display. This game typically sells out, buy early if you really want to go. Or take to the streets on the Northside to catch a view of the fireworks from the Diamond. 6:35 p.m. $6-10. Check out our video of the fireworks at the Diamond.
