It may be a few years since you've done it...but this weekend, you can drive-in to the movie theater. And this is no one-time-only, special event.
The Goochland Drive-In opens this weekend with a double feature on the bill: G-Force and G.I. Joe.
The drive-in is brand new -- brand new screen, brand new concession stand, brand new playground, the works -- on 10 acres just off I-64, exit 152, in Hadensville Village on the west side of Old Fredericksburg Road.
Here are a few of the "old school" features the new drive-in brings to town:
- Old school prices. $2 for a small popcorn and soda at the concession stand
- A cartoon short before the show and vintage drive-in films between the intermission
- A playground for kids to burn off steam before the show
What won't be old-school is the technology. You won't find transistor radios to hook onto your windows (the sound is too fuzzy and they let in mosquitoes). Instead, stereo sound will be transmitted via FM signal to your car's radio.
The lot will host up to 400 cars.
Gates open at 6 p.m. with the movies starting at dusk. Adults cost $7 each, kids 12 and under $3 and babies are free. For more movie info, call (804) 457-FILM.
