The Watermelon Festival is this weekend; check out our five favorite things about it from 2010.
The Watermelon Festival is this Sunday and so we’re celebrating by sharing the Top 5 things we love about the Carytown Watermelon Festival.
Babes
C’mon, you know you love it. It’s the one day of the year (we think) when you can spend the whole day chugging down Watermelon-flavored Jell-O shots at Babe’s.
The Heat
More specifically, the complaints about the heat. The Watermelon Festival always seems to be held on the hottest day of the year and it just wouldn’t be the same if people weren’t sweating and complaining: it’s so hot; why is it so hot; why are there so many people; how can it be so hot when I’m standing on crowded asphalt, in direct sunlight, on the hottest day of the year?
The Crowds
And, of course, the complaints about the crowds. But seriously, we love it. It’s rumored that the Watermelon Festival is now the biggest one-day festival in Virginia, with over 115,000 people, and counting, cramming the streets of our beloved Carytown for one-day.
The Dogs
Don’t ask us why, but Richmonders seem to love taking their precious pooches to this event, and we love them too. In fact, we’re willing to bet that when added altogether, there are more dogs per person at this event than any other in town.
The Music
Over 80 musicians jamming all day long – for free!
The Food
OK, so we got to six, but it’s the Watermelon Festival, we can’t help it! This year, for the first time ever, restaurants will be setting up stands on the street and letting festival go-ers sample their fare without waiting for a table. So, technically, we don’t know if we love it yet, but we’re pretty sure we will.
