We at Richmond.com present to you this week's top shows in RVA - Thursday, August 26 - Wednesday, September 1. Not always in order of preference.

1 Adam Lambert - American Idol's number one 'queen' - comes to the National this Friday, August 27.

Lambert, it seems, was born to be in the spotlight. Before Idol, he was an actor and since he's continued with the theatrics ... this time behind a microphone. Having been compared to the likes of Queen and David Bowie, one can be safe in assuming his performance here will be nothing short of entertaining.

Fellow Idol contestant Alison Iraheta will go on first. Doors open at 7 p.m. Details.

2 There's a Gulf Leak Benefit Saturday (Aug. 28) at the Camel featuring music by Ophelia, Lux Vacancy, ILAD and Caulit Anything.

Four great RVA bands for $5 - a minimum suggested donation - is a great deal. Proceeds will benefit the Gulf Coast Fund and Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Details.

3 What goes better with a great cause than some great music? Sunday, August 29 you have yet another chance to do something good with your hard-earned money all while pleasing those eardrums. The Canal Club is hosting the Benefit for Make A Wish Foundation.

The lineup includes:
Against Grace
Love and Reverie
Roslyn
Burn the Ballroom
District Kids
Safety Word Orange
From Coast to Skyline
Battleghost.

Doors open at 4 p.m. Details.

4 Also on Sunday - maybe even after you catch some of the benefit show at the Canal Club - you can catch hip-hop rap artist Michael Franti & Spearhead live at the National.

DJ Funklor will open. Doors at 7 p.m. Show at 8. Details.

5 Last but not least, the National brings the Deftones to town on Wednesday, September 1.

Before you go to the show, make sure you take a (Digital) Bath and Change (In the House of Flies) into your finest apparel. Ha.

Head over to their website to hear their music and see details on their latest album, BLACKDIAMONDSKYE.

Baroness - visit their website - will open. Show starts at 8 p.m. Details.
