There are plenty of Richmond restaurants that serve up fun with food. From ping pong and shuffle board to arcade games and bocce ball, the local bars offer much more than just cold beer at happy hour. 


Baja Bean CO.


Baja offers a bar more unique than most in the Richmond area. With a huge outdoor patio and bar, combined with an indoor restaurant and bar, Baja gives Richmonders a chance to enjoy the outside summer air and then step inside for A/C, pool, ski ball and video games. Inside the bar there are three pool tables and a Golden Tee machine, as well as televisions and music. Baja is a great stop for a relaxing drink outside and an entertaining night at the pool tables.


Location: 1520 W. Main St. On the corner of Lombardy and Main streets.


Happy Hour Specials: From 4 to 7 p.m. Baja has $1.25 Baja Golds and domestic beers, and $2.75 well drinks and margaritas


Brio Tuscan Grille


Brio has some of the best Italian food in town, a great bar and a bocce ball court. Get some delicious pasta and a drink and, while you’re waiting, head out to the patio and indulge in a good game of bocce ball.


Location: 9210 Stony Point Parkway, in the Stony Point Fashion Park, off Chippenham Parkway.


Happy Hour Specials: Weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to closing, Brio has great food specials like $2.95 appetizers and small tastings. Taste anything from burgers to Carpaccio to eggplant parmesan for a low price. Also, enjoy $1 off martinis on Wednesday.


City Dogs


City Dogs is the best place for a delicious but cheap hot dog, a cold beer and entertainment. They have a shuffleboard table and live entertainment Monday through Thursday. From DJ Chinchilla to the new local band Whirleybird, City Dogs can provide a fun and inexpensive night on the town.


Location: 1309 W. Main St. and 1316 E. Cary St.


Happy Hour Specials: From 4-7 p.m., enjoy $2 domestic beers and well drinks.


Dave & Buster's


For Richmonders who still have that little-kid attitude, Dave and Buster’s is the place to be. It has one of the biggest and best arcades in the area, with everything from ski ball to racing games to Guitar Hero. At Dave and Buster’s, you’ll enjoy a fun, childlike night in an adult, bar-like atmosphere. It also has great prizes that are not just giant stuffed animals. For a night to remind you of great times at the arcade, check out Dave and Buster’s for a drink and some gaming.


Location: 4001 Brownstone Boulevard, off Broad Street, in West Broad Village Shopping Center, in Short Pump.


Happy Hour Specials: Wednesday is half-price game night and during the week, happy hour offerings including half-price well drinks, $1 off wine and domestic beer and $3 off bottles of wine.


Mulligan’s Sports Grille


Mulligan’s is a great downtown place to drop by and watch the game, grab a beer and play a number of games. They offer ping pong, pool tables and an interactive boxing video game. Mulligan’s has good food at a moderate price and gives Richmonders more than just a place to sit at a bar.


Location: 1323 W. Main St., near the corner of Plum and Main streets.


Happy Hour Specials: From 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mulligan’s has happy hour with $1 draft beers, $5 pitchers and cheap PBR cans.


The Playing Field


Richmonders who love bar games should check out The Playing Field. Grab a drink, a burger and play everything from pool to poker. The Playing Field has more than 20 pool tables, two shuffleboard tables, a World Series of Poker game and dartboards to make a night at the bar more than just a spot to grab a beer. Check out The Playing Field for inexpensive food and a fun bar experience.


Location: 7801 W. Broad St. The Playing Field is on Broad Street near Parham Road, located in the shopping center with Stein Mart and Buffalo Wild Wings.


Happy Hour Specials: From 4 to 7 p.m. The Playing Field has happy hour deals on draft beers and well drinks.


Strange Matter


Join the VCU crowd for video games and happy hour specials at Strange Matter. This bar has a great arcade equipped with classic favorites like Space Invaders, Mario Brothers and Mortal Kombat. There are contests for the true gamers and a fun arcade for Richmonders who just want to play like a kid again… with a drink in hand.


Location: 929 W. Grace St. In the VCU area, a few blocks from the Siegel Center.


Happy Hour Specials: Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., Strange Matter has $1 off all draft beers.
