Dishing on New Restaurants

Dish: Now Open

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Word in the blogosphere is that the second location of Café Ole – the one going in the old Ben & Jerry’s in Carytown – could be open by this weekend. That is according to West of the Boulevard News, but Richmonders won’t have to wait that long to check out a new restaurant.

Mainstream, the new restaurant in the old Plaza Mexico, I mean Cirrus, I mean Dogwood Grille, opened for lunch yesterday, Nov. 16, and plans to start serving dinner on Friday (once that ABC license comes through). I don’t have a lot of details now, but the Richmond.com team is heading out there later today and promises to return with details.

And there’s more new stuff in the works.

Of course everyone’s heard that Kendra Feather, the genius behind Ipanema Café and Garnett’s, is opening a new restaurant in Church Hill in the old Que Pasa, but did you know she’s looking for a name for the new restaurant? Check out Twitter for more details.

And thanks to the fine folks at GayRVA.com, I got a tip that a fine dining restaurant is in the works near Ettamae's Café, adjacent to the under-renovation Hippodrome Theater. We’ll keep you posted.

McAlister’s Deli is now open at 1300A Gaskins Road and plans to add a Short Pump location next spring.

Due to a trademark issue, Savor Café has changed their name to The Lunch Porter. Don’t worry, everything else will stay the same in this beloved Manchester Spot, it’s just the name that’s going away.

Finally if you’re looking to get some restaurant and food-related gifts for the holidays and you want to help a good cause, check out Patrick Henry Charter School’s Annual Holiday Online Auction.
