The Richmond Folk Festival wrapped up Sunday after three days of great music and equally spectacular weather, drawing huge crowds to Brown's Island.
Organizers estimate more than 190,000 turned out for the festival according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Last year, turnout was 160,000. On-site donations also surged this year at $72,000.
The three day festival went off without a hitch and we had a complete blast. People were dancing, singing and swaying to the music throughout the festival.
We thought organizers did a great job and we had an easy time navigating throughout the festival. Even when we lost our keys in the field in front of the Altria tent, a helpful volunteer helped us find them.
The festival offered many memorable moments but our favorites were:
Andes Manta playing pan flutes and mountain music (watch our video here).
Lunasa playing a stirring set of Irish music
Free kazoos at the Family tent
Enjoying the gorgeous weather all three days. 80s and sunny on Brown's Island? We'll take it!
Salsa-ing to New York's La Excelencia on the RTD Dance Pavilion
Watching No BS Brass Band perform the 80s classic "Take On Me." (video here)
Getting down to Los Texmaniacs
Wrapping up with bluegrass from Peter Rowan & Tony Rice on Sunday
