Theater seasons is starting up again and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the fine shows that Richmond has to offer.



  • The Firehouse Theatre presents the American classic “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” In the play, George and Martha invite a new professor and his wife to their house after a party and then engage in relentless, scathing verbal and sometimes physical abuse in front of them. This production runs from Sept. 9 - Oct. 2.

  • The Beebo Brinker Chronicles,” presented by the Richmond Triangle Players, follows the lives of Laura, Beth and Beebo as they navigate uncharted territories of secret love and desire. The show opens Sept. 15 – Oct. 9.

  • Over at Swift Creek Mill, a group of devious characters deal with a shy stranger who they think doesn’t speak any of English in “The Foreigner,” running Sept. 16 – Oct. 23.

  • In Barksdale Theatre’s comic adventure “Shipwrecked,” real-life fantasist Louis De Rougemont tells his stories about oceanic adventures with imagination and boundless energy. The show opens Sept. 17 and runs until Oct. 24.

  • And at Barksdale Theatre’s Hanover Tavern, “Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming” tells the story of the pastor at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church saying goodbye to his church with hilarious and touching stories and Bluegrass Gospel favorites. The show runs Sept. 24 – Nov. 7.

  • Theatre IV’s “Ferdinand the Bull” tells the story of a bull who doesn't want to fight and butt heads like the other bulls, but instead wants to take care of his flowers. The show runs Oct. 1 – 17 at the Empire Theatre.

  • On Oct. 2, Broadway in Richmond presents “Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain Tonight!” at the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage. Hal Holbrook performs and uses Twain’s own words to comment on contemporary American culture.

  • Richmond Shakespeare presents the classic tale “Arcadia” at Richmond CenterStage Oct. 14 – 30.

  • Henley Street Theatre Company and Barksdale Theatre present “Titus Andronicus” as part of their Bootleg Shakespeare series on Oct. 30. In this one night only, free performance, professional Richmond actors come together with their lines memorized, their own costumes and props to mount an unrehearsed production of the show.
