Last year, we covered the State Fair's new location at Meadow Event Park. (See pictures here.)
This year, we went for the food.
Check out our slideshow to get a rundown on the goodies you can find at this year's State Fair.
A few standouts we tried this year:
The Donut Burger. $5. Oh yes, we did. Cheeseburger with bacon on a glazed donut. Sweet and salty at the same time. We definitely felt a little queasy a half-hour later. Estimated to contain about 1,000 calories and 45 grams of fat. Available at Porky's. You'll need to ask for it.
The Fried Green Beans with Tiger Sauce for $5. Sinfully delicious. And it's a vegetable!
The Slush Factory -- make your own slushie for $7. Highly addictive, especially on these 90 degree days.
Roasted nuts. $5. Salted, sugared, cinnamon-tossed nuts like cashews, pecans, and almonds.
Fried Cheese on a Stick. $5. At Real Wisconsin Cheese. It's the State Fair, apparently you have to fry everything and put it on a stick.
Zemmy's Pot Dog Slider. $3.95. Deep fried hot dog on a bun topped with potato salad.
Gyros, $8 or grilled chicken sandwich, $5. Fried food isn't your only option at the fare. Keep your eyes peeled for grilled options. The chicken gyro is delicious from The Grapevine, featuring grilled chicken, veggies, lettuce and tzatziki sauce.
