Find out what some of the participating restaurants will be serving up for Broad Appetit this weekend.
There are tons of Richmond events that let you sample the menus of local restaurants, but only one that brings more than 60 of them together so that all of the sampling can happen in one place.
It’s Broad Appetit, and it’s this Sunday, June 5, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
This four-year old event is fast becoming a Richmond foodie favorite thanks to a simple, but delicious concept: some of the hottest chefs and restaurants in town serve up a sampling of a signature dish for $3 a tasting.
And we got a sampling of what a few of them will be serving.
Ettamae's Cafe – a signature dessert: strawberry shortcakes, using Canadian tea biscuit, Virginia strawberries, and fresh whipped cream.
The Franklin Inn – directly from their menu – barbecue pulled pork sliders (the house-made recipe) and buffalo nickel shrimp (spicy buffalo sauce baked in grits).
Olio – Angus beef and bleu cheese wraps with fresh figs, caramelized onion, and a balsamic reduction, plus a melon gazpacho.
Tarrant's Café – pizza, fish tacos, and cannoli.
Halligan Bar & Grill – pork bbq, beef brisket, and ribs, all in one sampler platter.
Sensi Restaurant – crab ravioli with lobster sauce, stuffed peaches, and a French bean salad.
Tastebuds American Bistro – ancho chili-flavored salmon fritter with cucumber salsa, served on a sweet potato chip, and raw melon soup with goat cheese crumble and micro greens.
The Empress & its sister catering company Imperial Catering and Events: Pulled pork lettuce wraps, grilled scallops with smoked corn, breakfast foods, and some desserts.
