How many RiverDogs/Renegades/Robins fans do we have left in Richmond? What are we talking about? Minor league ice hockey!
Tough guy stuff. Eddie Shore. Toe Blake. You remember the movie "Slapshot" with Paul Newman don't you?
The Northern Professional Hockey League is targeting Richmond for a team, according to a release from the commissioner, Chuck Harrison.
Yeah, sure Old Time Hockey! Like Eddie Shore!
The newly created NPHL will be a self-contained Double “A” free agent minor hockey league, according to the website. The NPHL has entered into a working agreement with The All American Hockey League (AAHL). The AAHL will operate as a professional Single “A” league and will be a feeder system to the NPHL.
I got a good deal on those boys (the Hanson Brothers). Scout said they showed a lot of promise.

The Richmond Robins played from 1970-1976. The original Renegades, under Allan B. Harvie Jr.'s backing, began operations in 1990 in the East Coast Hockey League and remained solvent until 2003. The RiverDogs took over the Richmond Coliseum ice when the Renegades went out of business and remained in the United Hockey League for three seasons. When the RiverDogs moved out of town after the 2005-06 season, Harvie brought the Renegades back, playing their last game in 2009.
Okay coach....gimme a grape or an orange and none of that stinkin' rootbeer!
