Here’s a new family-friendly series we're excited to see to help get us through the winter weekends...
"RACE: Are We So Different?" is a new exhibit opening at the Science Museum on January 28 through April 29, 2012.
To celebrate, the Science Museum is hosting a series of “Family Cultural Saturdays” featuring music, dancing, food, make-and-take craft projects and more.
Family Cultural Saturdays start this Saturday, Jan. 28.
And here’s what you’ll see:

Noon: Chickahominy Dancers
1 p.m.: Ezibu Muntu African Dance
3 p.m.: Ezibu Muntu African Dance
4 p.m.: Latin Ballet of Virginia performing selections from “Verde”
4:30 p.m.: Tai Yim Kung Fu School performing the Lion Dance
Discovery Room
2 p.m. Featured Speaker Chief Stephen Adkins
RF&P Forum
4:30 p.m. Latin Ballet of Virginia Dance Workshop
Level Three
Eureka! Theater
1 p.m. Featured Speaker Teja Arboleda. Teja Arboleda is a performing artist who challenges audiences to wipe away assumptions about identity that limit us. Open to public with reserved seating.

Noon-5 p.m. Make and Takes
Shadow screen: Dance behind a screen and cast your shadow while dancing
Bee Dance: Learn how a bee dances and trace its movement with a magnet
Fan Dance: Decorate your own fan so you can do a fan dance
Bell Bracelet: Create your own bell bracelet and make your own music while you dance
Family Cultural Saturday is included with Museum admission or free for members.

Enjoy a rich variety of musical presentations to enhance your exploration of “RACE: Are We So Different?” Expect to see performances from City Singers, Nirmal Bajekal, University of Richmond Taiko Drumming Ensemble, Imamyar Hasanov, Richmond Youth Peace Project, Ban Caribe and Journey to Africa Drum Workshop.
