Night one, down. Two more to go!
The Richmond Folk Fest got off to a bang Friday night with seven splashy performances, great weather and plenty of Richmonders flocking to the sprawling festival grounds along the James River at Brown’s Island.
We caught a festive reggae concert from the Mighty Diamonds and dance-worthy tunes from the Pedrito Martinez Group. We hear the Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera also had crowds buzzing – watch a video from the TimesDispatch.
The setting was beautiful with the James River rolling by in the distance and a train passing overhead during the Mighty Diamonds performance. Several people cheered.
We chowed down on some very tasty grub. Highly recommend the Mountain Topp from Goatacodo, a fresh veggie sandwich with spicy black beans, avocado and Gouda, the crab cakes from Sam Miller’s, and a giant corn dog for the kids.
Expect great weather Saturday and Sunday – mostly sunny and in the ‘70s. Perfect Folk Festival weather. Get the forecast here.
Today, we’re looking forward to checking out the Genworth Family Area, more food and more concerts.
