Ever dreamed of doing improv comedy but don’t have the experience?
The Richmond Comedy Coalition will show you how.
Starting July 18, the popular Richmond comedy troupe will offer six-week instructional classes for improvisational comedy to anyone interested.
Two classes will be offered, an introductory level and one for experienced improvisers. Classes will be held at ArtWorks Gallery.
- “Intro to Improv,” a course held for beginners on Wednesday nights starting July 21 from 7-9 p.m.
- “Patterns and Games,” a more advanced course for improvisers with previous experience looking to further their training. “Patterns and Games” will be taught on Sundays starting July 18 from 12-2 p.m.
The Richmond Comedy Coalition’s last series of classes was held this spring to great success. At the end of their training, class members performed in a free graduation show at Gallery 5 for friends and family.
“The advanced class performed a popular long form improv format called The Harold, and they performed an entire set,” said Artistic Director Katie Holcomb. “I had a total proud parent moment. All the students I talked to really seemed to enjoy themselves.”
Class teachers, who are members of the RCC ensemble, have a large amount of experience performing with Second City, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, ComedySportz and more. Everyone is encouraged to attend and no prior comedy, theater or improv experience is necessary for the introductory class.
