I’m moving and I want to know – are there any "good" or non-chain restaurants in Bon Air?
-- Colleen
Are there! You don’t have to stop eating local just because you’re in the ‘burbs now. Bon Air has tons of great dining options. Joe's Inn (2616 Buford Road) is the obvious choice, right off Forest Hill and Huguenot. It’s exactly like the Joe’s in the Fan, only Southside-style. Chicken Fiesta (7748 Midlothian Turnpike) is a fantastic spot for … well, chicken, as well as burritos and other Tex-Mex favorites. Plus, it’s right next to La Sabrosita Bakery (7730 Midlothian), one of the best little Latin bakeries in town. Or try Ruchee (9930 Midlothian Turnpike) for some fabulous Indian fare right off of Robious.
If you want to head down the road a bit, you can check out Outer Banks Seafood Co., River City Diner or Great Seasons Restaurant, all in The Shoppes At Bellgrade, or Sushi O and Belle Vie over by the mall on Alverser Plaza. And if you’re in Bon Air, you’re just down the road from the Hills & Heights area of the city, which has plenty of great options, but that’s for another column.
Some friends said Country Style Donuts is under renovation. Do you know anything?
-- Kevin
Your friends are right. As I mentioned in "Dish" last week, Country Style Donuts was closed for two weeks so the owners could renovate the Williamsburg Road donut spot, but the reno is done and they’re reopened for business.
