On Oct. 30, 2009, paranormal investigator Robert Bess joined the trio from Travel Channel's "Ghost Adventures" as the group explored the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, W.Va.
During the broadcast, Bess' electromagnetic field detector flew from his hand, and a swarm of controversy ensued. Allegations from fans said that Bess intentionally threw the meter. Bess claims that the meter was pulled by some unknown force.
Now, Bess' group The Foundation for Paranormal Research is challenging the Ghost Adventures crew to a paranormal showdown.
The challenge involves a live capture of a ghost and to produce real evidence on the spot.
"I've told them anywhere," Bess said. "They can even pick the location and bring as much help as they need."
"If I win - meaning, if I deliver real proof of paranormal existence in the location of their choice right then and there as it happens - I request that they cancel the next season and tell the public exactly why."
"If they win, it's up to them what they want in return." he added.
When Bess held his ghost catching experiment at the Pump House last March, he asked guests to show their pictures and show one another just what they captured on camera.
"This demonstrates to everyone that they were experiencing real paranormal activity," he said. "Some photos taken by guests were able to catch apparitions and orbs which they did better than we did."
Bess has not heard back from the "Ghost Adventures" crew after repeated attempts.
"If there's no answer, then their fans and general public can only assume that they have declined and backed down from the challenge." Bess said.
"This isn't about trash talking," he continued. "I just want to bring things to light and clear my name as a paranormal investigator. On 'Ghost Adventures,' it looked like I didn't know what I was doing."
Bess hopes by doing this challenge, people will understand more about catching ghosts.
"This is the point of what we do," he said. "We want to show outside people the experience of real ghosts and activity without all the confusion."
