Movie Maker Magazine named Richmond one of "Top 10 cities to be an independent moviemaker."

Shout-out to CBS 6 for finding the news. Movie Maker’s list is all over the internet, with every Top 10 city finding their mention and sharing the news, but it’s not yet on Movie Maker’s website (oh, print publications).

But according to WTVR, Richmond came in at number 9 on the "Top 10 cities to be an independent moviemaker" in part for our recent Steven Spielberg connection.

"The magazine also gave mention to the work of the Virginia Production Alliance (VPA), headquartered in Richmond. In addition to promoting moviemaking in Virginia, VPA also collaborates with the Virginia Film Office (VFO) to coordinate the annual Virginia Indie Film Festival."

The complete Top 10 list:

1. New Orleans, Louisiana

2. Austin, Texas

3. Albuquerque, New Mexico

4. Seattle, Washington

5. New York, New York

6. Boston, Massachusetts

7. Atlanta, Georgia

8. Chicago, Illinois

9. Richmond, Virginia

10. Wichita, Kansas
