Reading is a fun and frugal thing to do in your free time. Reading can help broaden your imagination and help you learn new things. If you’re a book lover but you don’t want to blow your budget on reading material then follow the frugal advice for getting books at a discount or even free below.
Of course there’s always the traditional way of obtaining books without having to pay anything for them and that is to use your public library. Get a library card in the county you live in and visit the local library to check out books to read. This way you can just borrow the book you want to read and return it when you’re finished. Using the library means there is no cost to you and it doesn’t take up space on your bookshelf at home. However, remember to always return the book to the library so you don’t have to pay for the book.
Online shopping sites like EBay and Amazon sell almost every kind of book you can think of. Oftentimes you can find books at a discounted price, both gently used and new on Amazon and EBay. Craigslist is also a good resource to check to see if anyone has a book you want for sale locally. Chegg offers you the option to rent or sell your used textbooks and is a great resource for college students to find cheap books for sale and to sell their books to other students. Remember to use coupon codes when shopping online too. You can find Chegg coupon codes to get an even better deal on textbooks. There are many other websites that allow you to search for and buy or sell college textbooks online.
If you have a Kindle or if you download Kindle on your computer you can get lots of free books for Kindle. Amazon has a listing of free books for Kindle and also shows you where to find many more free E-books online.
Google also offers an extensive list of free E-books you can download and read on your computer. You can also sign up to become a book reviewer for Book Sneeze and get free books for writing and posting reviews of books. All you have to do is sign up and pick which book you want to read and review. Once you’ve finished reading it then you should write a short review and post it on both an online retailers’ website and onto a blog. Then you can keep requesting free books for every review you write and post.
Swap books online with other people using websites like Paperback Swap and Book Mooch. You can always read many different books online through great sites like Public Book Shelf, The Gutenberg Project, Free Classic Books and Full Books.
If you want a copy of a book instead of reading it online you can either order it online at a discount or you can go to one of the various retailers that sell books to try to find the book of your choice at a reasonable price. You should shop around at the many different retailers who sell books and look for discounted books. There are many retailers who sell books including Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, Borders, Wal-Mart, Target and you can even find some books for sale at The Dollar Tree.
Whether you choose to buy, rent, swap or borrow books is up to you, just know that knowledge and information doesn’t have to cost a lot. There is an abundance of books and information available for free at your fingertips.
